Movie Reviews - Man of Steel Superman by Christopher Nolan and Zach Snyder

Man of Steel Movie Review:
-Dhruv Kalaria

I am not fan of Superman. I have never seen the cartoon even. The same applies equally for 'The Batman' as well.  But one fine day i was forced by some of my friends to watch 'Batman Begins'. I was awestruck by the way 'Christopher Nolan' had screen played and directed the characters and all the sequences. It brought a life to the movie and later on the further parts need less to say all words would sound dumb to display the extravaganza.

With this mindset I entered the Cinema Hall. The movie started off and i really liked the way KRYPTON planet(Particularly the video telephony device) is created. The action sequences on the plant reminded me of AVATAR's final sequences, but very pleasant to watch. A child(Karl) is born in the planet since ages who has the right to think and lead his life through his free will. Russel Crowe has played a fantastic role as a father of the child and protecting him from the evils of Commander Zod. The child who is a special child for Krypton as he has the 'Atomic Skull' which can help in re-establishing the whole world of Kryptonians who is on the verge of apocalypse. This special child is sent off to planet - 'Earth' by his parents to save him from the total destruction. By the time Commander Zod is captured and sent for the sentence for infinite time. Moments later the world of 'KRYPTON' ends with great Visual Effects to watch.

The child is named as 'Clarke Kent' on planet earth. The connection between Clarke's mom on earth and him has given an emotional touch to the movie which is shows you no matter for a mother even though the son is not born from her womb can matter a lot. Its always the mother who teaches how to focus in our lives no different is shown in the movie.

A saying goes like following- 'A Card of Ace is thrown to win the biggest battle'. Kent' father knew this and he did not wanted the world to know the identity of  Clarke. He even considered his life worth, a less of value and feathered in the Tornado.

Clarke's connection with Lois does not look very appalling might be am born in India where the chemistry matters the most. Commander Zod makes an entry and asks for the 'Karl' as he contains the DNA which could re establish the Krypton plant here on earth. Clarke surrenders himself and he is not happy to create the new civilization by destroying humans. He then starts to fight against the Zod and team which brings
ample and long action sequence which drives you crazy with the sound effect by Hans Zimmer ( Hats off to this guy).

Overall, a great movie to watch. Some of you might complain that the movie is un-necessarily stretched but i think the script demanded it. Do watch with your girl friends and younger siblings there are no sexy scenes in the movie. I was asked by one of my friends in comparison with 'The Dark Knight' series, i am not rating it higher than it. Master pieces are made by rare artists rarely.

My Dex Points are :

Emotions: 3.5/5

Story- 3.5/5
VFX-4.5/5
Sound-4.7/5 ( i know i am getting cheezy here)
Wow effect - 3.5/5
Overall - 4/5 a nice movie to watch.

Thanks for your support and inspiration.

How do you feel about your Start Up? Excited. Nervous. Making $$

Julie Fredrickson is a three-time founder whose current startup is PlayAPI.

I have a confession to make. I’ve recently become obsessed with being liked by a certain crowd: “Tech.”
As a woman generally unconcerned with being palatable to others, making this admission is really painful for me.
I’ve always been contrarian, sometimes deliberately, even going so far as naming my first blog after the premise that I was always “almost” appropriate for a given situation. But the truth is that I have always been a profoundly non normative person.
But for some reason over the last 6 months or so I started caring about being liked.  Liked by the Silicon Valley set. Liked by venture capitalists. Liked by the kind of men that determine who is or is not “one of us” in tech.  I’d say women but there aren’t enough to warrant being concerned about.  I wanted to be one of those founders, you know, the type that gets silly valuations and love from the name brand ventures firms, the type that gets written up by the tech press, the sort that powerful angels vouch for and send around glowing intros for as being “the next big thing,” and the sort that jets around to conferences.  In other words, I got wrapped up in the idea of having myself and my business being hyped instead being a genuinely successful
business.
Julie Fredrickson
I was making justifications to myself at night about how they “should” love my startup. We had all the pattern matching basics down pat. We are second time founders that have worked together for the better part of a decade. We had a successful exit. We are solving a major problem for a growing market. We’ve experienced the problem personally and are building for the pain points we know. We have A-list clients. Celebrity (well in tech at least) advisors. We are even in the “hot” enterprise space. We have a female co-founder! Don’t you want to show that you aren’t biased? LIKE US GOD DAMN IT.
Now as someone who has manufactured desire and cool for a living let me tell you the first thing you can do to kill being “it” is by trying to get the people who set those standards to apply and judge you by them. Being cool has never been about begging to be liked. But I started doing all the things that a “poser” does. We did the functional equivalent of changing our hair, our wardrobe and even our personalities to be liked.
And of course it didn’t work. We weren’t being ourselves. But I kept taking advice on how to be more appealing. And then I wondered why I was miserable. I was floundering in the tech world’s Mean Girl clique and like Lindsay Lohan I was starting to hate myself for it.
I got caught up in the perception market and lost sight of the fact that I’m supposed to be serving an actual market.  And I was doing pretty well at it.  Because ironically while we were floundering at being liked by tech our business was great. All the objective signs of a successful business abounded. It turns out I’ve got a startup that happens to be a business. You know what that means?  We make money.  In the reality markets people pay us. And they pay us more for the product than it costs to create it.  By a great margin. And more and more people are going to have a need for this product in the future, aiding our margins even further. I have real clients that believe my product is serving a genuine need and are willing to pay to have us solve their problem. Maybe it isn’t the glamor that the men in tech seek but not for nothing I’m a Weberian Protestant and I’m happy to serve with an unwavering work ethic. I actually like my clients. I believe in my product. Serving our market makes me happy. You know what doesn’t make me happy?
Serving tech’s capricious standards does not make me happy.
Because as it turns out the market for being an “it” founder and a flavor of the week startup isn’t the reality market. It is the perception market. Plenty of successes in the perception market fail at being real businesses which is ostensibly what all of us are trying to achieve. Hell, the jury is even out on whether venture capital itself is even a decent asset class.
So you know what? Fuck you guys. I don’t really bear you any malice but since this is a personal exorcism of a ridiculous ego driven emotional burden I hope you don’t mind if I curse you a little bit. I need to get you off my mind, you see. So, I don’t need your approval. I don’t need your hype. And I have no idea why I was even seeking it. I need the approval of the markets. I need the approval of my clients. And so far I’ve got it. But if I spend too much time changing who I am (aka our product) to please you then I might lose that. So I’m going to stop caring and go back to working. And I will be patient and diligent. And if the “IT” crowd ever comes calling I’ll wait a few days to return their calls.

The Google Store !!

Google reportedly plans to open several retail locations in the United States before the end of 2013, a move that would better position its products against Apple and Microsoft.
The decision to add a retail presence, which was first posted by 9to5Google, would give Google a direct outlet for selling products like its Nexus phones and tablets and its Chromebook laptops. It could also provide a place to educate consumers about Android and help customers that have problems with their Android phones.
If 9to5Google’s reporting is correct, Google hopes to have its first flagship Google Stores open just in time for the holiday season. Naturally, Google will focus on opening up shop in “major metropolitan areas.”
It at least has a little experience in physical retail. Google has been testing a retail presence inside hundreds of Best Buy locations in the United States with its Chromebook displays, so it may have learned a few lessons from that.
Clearly the move is meant to counter Apple, which has had tremendous success with its retail operations. Apple currently has 400 stores in 12 countries, and it plans to open another 30 stores this year.
Microsoft also followed Apple’s retail lead in the past few years by opening several stores through the United States and Canada. The company opened 51 “full line” (large retail locations) and “specialty” stores in 2012, and said it will open six more stores in early 2013. Those stores aren’t always staffed by the most friendly people, but at least they’ve got a direct line to consumers who might need help with Windows or Windows Phone devices.

The FAMOUS QUOTES ON TESTING IN 2012
This was another great year for our Testing the Limits interview series. So to round out 2012, here’s a look back at some of our favorite quotes of the year.

January – Richard Stiennon

“Security testing of software throughout its development cycle is indeed different than quality and functionality testing. Instead of testing against end user use cases you have to have a mind set of an attacker, a completely different use case. In addition to meticulous use of security testing tools (HP-Fortify, Veracode, etc) a security tester must understand the application and how an attacker would leverage built-in functionality to subvert a system. A security tester must be diligent and detail oriented as well as imaginative and wily – a rare combination.”

February – Anne-Marie Charrett

“There’s a misconception that creating a visible testing structure is the equivalent of testing. This is not true. What makes a house a home? Not the roof or the external walls, but the people inside the house. It’s the same for testing. Testing is about the testers, their skill and discipline and how they interact and behave with others. That’s what companies need to focus on when setting up a team.”

“I think it’s essential that we take responsibility for the testing we do. This means each tester decides on their testing approach, what they test and when they’re done. Owning these decisions is what matures a tester, helping them become skilled, confident and motivated to excel in their testing.”

March – Testing Roundtable

“Real testing, to me, should be based on investigating how the software allows people to deal with what we call ‘exceptions’ or ‘corner cases.’ That’s what we call them, but if we bothered to look, we’d find out that they were a lot more common than we realize; routine, even.” – Michael Bolton

“Pretty good testing is easy to do (that’s partly why some people like to say ‘testing is dead’– they think testing isn’t needed as a special focus because they note that anyone can find at least some bugs some of the time). Excellent testing is quite hard to do.” – James Bach

“Testing has to be an integral part of developing software and not a separate phase. When this approach is taken, product quality is owned by everyone on the team. It is easy to state, but hard to put into practice because of long standing preconceived notions that developers and testers are better kept apart.” – James Sivak

“An explorer who doesn’t know much about testing probably won’t explore very well.” – Cem Kaner

April – Gerald Weinberg

“To me, the biggest weakness is not considering software testing anything but a (barely) necessary evil. Testing is seen as something that could be done by a troop of monkeys, so serious testers are treated like third-class individuals. The lack of means of acquiring testing skills arises from this attitude, as do most of the other poor practices in the testing business. You treat people as if they are stupid, then they will wind up acting stupid.”

“You can be a great tester if you have programming skills. You can also be a great tester if you have no programming skills at all. And, you can be a lousy tester with or without programming skills. A great tester will learn what skills she needs to continue to be great, in her own style.”

“Years ago, I thought punch cards were the last word in input. I thought that when I mastered sorting on magnetic tapes, I’d reached the ultimate in storage devices. I once thought that 2000 decimal digits was a vast amount of central storage. I guess what I’ve learned by now is that there is no ultimate technology, and if there were, I’d never live to see it.”

May – Galina Kramer

“My advice to anyone switching industries – GO FOR IT! Try new things and have some fun!! I love working in the gaming industry and never thought work can bring so much enjoyment.”

“It’s all about prioritization and risk assessment. We shuffle resources on a daily basis depending on a priority and work together. Teamwork is the key, truly.”

“When I interview testers the main thing I look for is Passion. A great manager once told me: ‘If an interview candidate does not know something you can teach him/her and in six months he/she can become an expert in the field. If a person doesn’t have passion inside of them – six months later he/she will still not have passion,’ I really believe in that.”

June – Seth Eliot

“If your company is dysfunctional, ask yourself if there is something you can do to turn it around and turn it into one of those dream successes. Learn new strategies and approaches for software engineering, change the direction, and bring new life to the company. At best you will be the hero, at worst you will have learned some valuable skills and lessons for finding that next job.”

“The advantage of Testing in Production is you find things you just cannot find (or are prohibitively expensive to find) pre-production. The corollary to this is that you should not be finding bugs in production that you could have easily found earlier by unit testing or simple functional testing.”

July - Scott Barber

“Testers want the products they are testing to be very good. This is a positive trait for a tester. I mean, really, what kind of information would you get from a tester who wanted the product they are testing to be mediocre? The companies who employ testers also want the products being tested to be very good. The problem is that the companies and the testers tend to have very different definitions of ‘very good.’ Testers want products to be free from bugs. Companies want products to be as profitable as possible as quickly and cheaply as possible for as long as possible.”

“What really needs to die about testing is all of the proclamations, unsubstantiated generalizations, closed-mindedness, argumentativeness, debating, personal venom and rubbernecking surrounding the ‘right’ or ‘best’ way to test. I just keep thinking that if all the people touting ‘right’ or ‘best,’ all the people countering them and all the people who can’t seem to look away (probably due to the entertainment factor) would just forget about ‘right’ and ‘best’ in favor of collaboratively figuring out how to produce higher quality software faster and cheaper. … I’ll let you in on a secret. There is no one ‘right’ and there is no single ‘best’ and there never will be.”

August – Bob Binder

“Testing burns money and it has to earn its keep. I always seek to optimize what test can do, but that’s specific to each situation. The client decides what reliability they have to have, how much they’re willing to spend to get that, and what kind of disruption they can tolerate getting there.  Sometimes, education about these issues is helpful. I bring an ever-increasing bag of tricks to every situation. The puzzle is how to use available people, tools, and techniques to deliver the best possible result within the constraints of a particular situation.”

“Testing is mostly a search problem – we know bugs exist, but we can only guess where they might be hiding. To the extent we have clues about those hiding places, we should use them.”

September – Lee Henson

“Agile testing makes both developers and testers better at what they do. It forces them to think outside the box and blurs the line for many when it comes to cross-pollination. Developers want to write better code to impress the testers and avoid having to frequently revisit and refactor code. Testers learn to better understand how code works and functions which increases their proficiency at writing meaningful tests. This increases the value of your product and organization.”

“Great GUI testing reminds me of being a great chef. While the developers are micro focused on preparing the perfect recipe, all the end user wants is a prepared dish that exceeds their expectations when it comes to taste. We need to take more time to understand at a greater depth who our intended audience is and make certain that the recipe matches their tastes.”

“I really like Agile testing because it draws emphasis to the truth about pushing forward. It eliminates indecision. It points out that the very worst that can happen is that you make an incorrect decision early and you have enough time in the process to course correct. Traditional environments only allow you to learn about the failures at the end and do not promote best decision making practices.”

October – Karen N. Johnson

“We should never lose sight of what solution a product provides and our need to test from that perspective. I think because there are so many devices, operating systems and a large array of configurations to test, we seem particularly eager to automate mobile testing but if you don’t know what you need to test manually, you’re not ready to build automation.”

“What’s interesting about mobile and usability is that for the past decade, we’ve learned about web testing and have stabilized and matured the web market and now mobile comes along and introduces another market to figure out. What’s usable and makes sense on a desktop is not the same as what’s usable on mobile. Usability needs to be reconsidered and as testers, we have an opportunity to find not just functional issues and defects but to highlight usability concerns.”

November – Paul Holland

“I think that the only way to perform good testing is to adapt the approach to your testing mission to your own specific environment or context. You will be missing some major testing areas without considering how your current situation is different to other situations in which you have been involved. There is no way to apply the same techniques and process to every testing situation and have your testing be efficient and effective.”

“Some testers love hands-on testing, while others like to solve problems, some like to write, others like to code. There are so many options that a good tester can follow. My advice is to find a job that you really enjoy doing and do that – hopefully you will end up being well paid to do that job.”

Connect Broadband 3G USB modem internet from your Laptop to Android / iPhone with Wifi

Why to pay extra for the Mobile internet services when you already have the home braodband. If you consider your per month $20.00 for your mobile internet that accounts for $240.00 a year and in 5 years that comes to $1200.00 Why should you just waste such huge money on something just to check the notifications on Facebook or the Tweet from your favs.  Also if you have noticed that even you set up a Ad Hoc connection from your laptop that is not being recognised by your phone. But never to worry about i have come up with an idea to solve your problem. I am laying the path for you how to connect your home broadband connection on your internet to your phone without any wireless router. Yes without any router, without any additional software and with out any much hiccup. All you have to do is a series of steps and you are done.

Steps in Windows 7:

Step-1: Open "RUN" (in admin mode)

Then right click it and select "Run as Administrator" option.

Step-2: Start your Wireless Network by enabling the Network Switch located in your Laptop. My switch for Dell Inspiron is on the right side( push it forward)

Step-3: Copy paste the below command to create an access ID for your device

"netsh  wlan  set  hostednetwork  mode=allow  ssid=phonewifi  key=Kareena123  keyusage=persistent"

Note: You can set any name  to  this access point by replacing 'funkywifi' with your required
name.Similarly you can give any password/security key  instead of 'password123' that must
be a string with 8 to 63 ASCII characters.
If  keyUsage  is  specified  as  'persistent',  the  security  key will  be saved and used when the hosted network  is started again  in future. Otherwise it will be used only when the current or
next  time the hosted network is started. Once the hosted network is stopped, the temporary
security key will be deleted  from  the system.  If keyUsage is not specified, it is persistent by
default. If you want to keep the password temporary replace 'persistent' with temporary'.

3. Once  the  command  executes  successfully. You  can  check  your  newly  created  hosted
network configuration by typing the following on the same command prompt window:
netsh wlan show hostednetwork
Now  that  you  have  configured  the  access  point  network,  follow  step  no.  6  to  share your
broadband or lan connection.
4. Now  that you have configured a hosted network named 'funkywifi', you need to start it by
the following command on the same command window:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Now you can check  the same by opening either 'Network and sharing center' or by clicking
connection button in right corner of taskbar.
5. To stop the connection type the following :
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
[Remember  everytime  you  do  this  ,  all  these  commands  except  the  commands  in  step 3
and  5  needs  administrative  privilages.Hence  you  should  follow  the  first step for doing the
same.]

If  you  don't  like  to  type  all  these  lines  every  time  you  start  your network, then skip steps
2,3,4  &  5.  You  can  save  the  three  commands  as  discussed  in  steps 2,4 and 5 in three
different  batch  files, which  can  do  the  same  task  if  you  run  them  as  administrator. To do
this,  type  the  command  of  my  2nd  Step  i.e,  "netsh  wlan  set  hostednetwork
mode=allow ssid=funkywifi key=password123 keyusage=persistent"  in Notepad.exe
and save it as "sethostednetwork.BAT".
Similarly  save "netsh wlan  start hostednetwork"  as start.BAT  and "netsh wlan  stop
hostednetwork" as 'stop.BAT".
Now  to creat or configure a new connection you can right click on "sethostednetwork.BAT"
file icon and click on 'run as administrator'.

To start the connection right click on "start.BAT" file icon and click on 'run as administrator'.
To stop the connection right click on "stop.BAT" file icon and click on 'run as administrator'.
If  you  want  to  change  username  and  password  just  right  click  on  the
"sethostednetwork.BAT"  file  icon  and  click  on  edit  option.  After  replacing  the existing
username or password save it.
6. Now  this  is an  important step without this you can't share your laptop internet. For doing
this go  to  'Network and sharing center' and click on 'Change adapter settings'. If you find it
difficult to find it, just type 'Network and sharing center' as search phrase.

Identify your broadband connection or your PC internet connection (for me it is 'Local Ar
Connection')  ,  right  click  and  goto  properties  and  then  click  onto sharing tab.Check t
"Internet Connection Sharing"  button  and  select  your  home  network  connection  from  t
given options  in the same tab for me it is "Wireless Network Connection 2".Now click ok a
you are done.

:P Not yet ! !
7.  Once  you  can  see  your  hosted  network  in  'Network  and  sharing  center', go to
Settings>Wireless and network>Wi-Fi Settings in your android device , and tap on "Turn on
Wi-Fi" button.  It will automatically detect your PC/Laptop wifi network. On clicking the same
connection in your mobile you only have to give the password and tap on 'connect' button.
Once connected you can use your PC/Laptop internet.

Leave a comment if this helped you. I will be happy to see them. :)
Thanks.. :)
